I am working on a historical fiction, tentatively titled as The Echoes of Tiananmen. It is a novel of love, sacrifice, and the pursuit of freedom, set against the violent aftermath of the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests.
In the wake of the Tiananmen massacre, Anwen, a shy and fearless young woman dreaming of going to America, falls in love with Dawei, a charismatic protest leader now branded a ‘Most Wanted Man.’
Hunted by the authorities, Anwen and Dawei embark on a perilous journey to escape China. Their flight to freedom thrusts them into a treacherous underground labyrinth of unlikely allies—from CIA operatives to Hong Kong triad lords. Each encounter forces them to confront their beliefs and question the true meaning of freedom, all while the legacy of Tank Man and the fall of the Berlin Wall reverberate through their struggle.
Echoes of Tiananmen is a powerful blend of Casablanca and The Unbearable Lightness of Being, offering a passionate tale of love and sacrifice, and the enduring human spirit in the face of oppression.
